Connectathon Network Information
The Connectathon 2009 network is a switched 10/100/1000 network, using a private Class B network address space. Each station will have a small block of addresses assigned with the Class B space with forward and reverse entries in DNS. There is one or more connections to each participant's station, depending on size of the station. A limited number of switches are available in the NOC should there be a need for additional ports within a station.
If you desire to sniff packets, you will need to bring a hub to insert into your drop to connect your sniffing equipment.
There are several test suite servers located throughout the hall containing test suites for most protocols being tested.
Some diagnostic equipment is provided to aid in protocol troubleshooting.
Forward and Reverse DNS are provided by the network, as well as local NTP.
Wireless connectivity will be provided using WEP.
DHCP will be provided for both wired and wireless connections for laptops.
The Connectathon network is connected to the Internet via NAT, with a firewall in place to prevent inbound attacks.
Access to external sites is permitted from the Connectathon network, however participants are encouraged to use secure methods for these connections.
The NOC will be staffed from around 8AM to 8PM PST.
